REACHING OUTSIDE OF YOURSELF

Updated: Jul 12, 2020

Constantly being focused on sex can be self-absorbing, like Narcissus staring at an image and never being satisfied. Narcissus is a figure from Greek mythology who fell in love with his own image reflected in a pool of water. Narcissus endlessly "lay gazing enraptured into the pool, hour after hour,"and being unable to consummate his love, changed into a flower that bears his name. Narcissus stared continuously at something that was not real. Narcissism today has become synonymous with all-consuming self-absorption. It’s a belief that nothing should stand in the way of immediate gratification, even if it is harmful.

Being living in a sexual fantasy world is a delusion and can render you incapable of seeing the bigger picture. It is a form of escapism. It can hold you back and prevents you from recognizing opportunities – or creating them. It can shut people out and put walls around you. Living in such a fantasy world distorts reality and can repel advantages and opportunities.

If you are struggling with obsessive sexual thoughts, don’t be like Narcissus always focusing inward, but look and relate more to the world around you.
